Adding to "memories"
Here's an idea. not taking away from the "memories" idea (which i think is the better of the two) but after she puts the plush doll in the trash, we see the monkey go on his own little journey in between shots of the girl thinking about the monkey. We could show how the monkey gets taken out by the garbage man but maybe it falls out of the garbage. Some dog picks it up and another girl takes it or whatever. But in the end, after the she sees it again somewhere by sheer coincidence and then picks it up again. Whadja think?

You know what, I wasn't thinking animated. I was just thinking random stuff happens to it. But on second thought, I think simple animation wouldn't be too bad either! This is getting better by the minute. How about we do a screen test this weekend?
Or maybe not even that fancy, just make a puppet out of it, strings and all. Michel Gondry style special effects, flaws and all.
